Cryptocurrencies not a priority for European Central Bank
Cryptocurrencies not a priority for European Central Bank! In an interview with CNBC, Daniele Nouy, chief supervisor of European Central Bank, when asked about "cryptocurrencies and its effect on the banking systems in general", responded:
"We scrutinize the issue in a regulatory perspective, we are ready to do something if it was needed, but so far it's not exactly very high on our to-do list,"
The European Central Bank's chief supervisor subdued the topic of cryptocurrencies, which usually is a favorite topic to rant upon by by bankers world wide.
Daniele Nouy further added that European Central Bank will have to keep an eye on cryptocurrencies as new risks have emerged. Bitcoin futures contracts on U.S. stock exchanges being one such things.
Having said that Nouy also said that they have not observed signs of any increased interest among European lenders.
Bitcoin rose dramatically from its lowest point of $6,048.26 from yesterday to get to its current position of $8135.41, with total gains of around 13.6%. The entire market took an upward ride with many cryptocurrencies seeing 50% plus gains in a span of 24 hours.
