Mark Zuckerberg to learn about Cryptocurrency

As part of his annual challenge for himself, Mark Zuckerberg to learn about cryptocurrency! Through a post on Facebook, the Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced his alacrity to learn about more about cryptocurrency in 2018.

As an annual affair Mark has been taking on personal challenges every year since 2009. His challenge for the current year is to acquire deeper knowhow of the technologies powering decentralization and study the positives and negatives of it.

"There are important counter-trends to this --like encryption and cryptocurrency -- that take power from centralized systems and put it back into people's hands. But they come with the risk of being harder to control. I'm interested to go deeper and study the positive and negative aspects of these technologies, and how best to use them in our services."

Mark has been taking up these challenges since 2009 and has completed all of his previous ones. Some of his pervious challenges were "to visit every US state, "run 365 miles", "built an AI for his home", "read 25 books", and "learned Mandarin".

His intention behind learning about cryptocurrency and the technology behind it is to assess the feasibility of its applications on Facebook's services.

He further added that a lot of individuals, like himself, got into technology space because they believed that it can act as a decentralizing force to put more power in people's hands.

"With the rise of a small number of big tech companies — and governments using technology to watch their citizens — many people now believe technology only centralizes power rather than decentralizes it."

-Mark Zuckerberg

Indeed, this could be the year of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency, with a real possibility of a decentralized Facebook.
